20 Things I’ve Learnt In My 20 Years

On 23rd July, I turned 20 and surpassed my teenage years. To say the least it’s been a very wild ride with lots of highs and lots of lows but nonetheless, I am beyond proud of myself for achieving all that I have so far in life and how I’ve overcome all the obstacles I’ve had to face. So, I thought I would share a few of the things I have picked up along the way upon my life journey

20 Things I’ve Learnt In My 20 Years

  1. Take every opportunity that gets given to you - even if your not sure about it, GO FOR IT! because otherwise you will be often pondering about all of the missed opportunities you could have taken, I’ve learnt this all too well
  2. Don’t let anyone make you question your self worth - in life we will come across some less than Nice people and sometimes we may be able to figure out who these people are either the easy way or the hard way.
  3. Don’t listen to any negative thoughts about yourself - Everyone has something that they feel insecure about and they want to hide away from the world but stop for a moment and think, does anyone really care about your insecurity or is it just you? Just take a look around and notice all of the people that surround you, there there because they love you and will love you regardless of anything. So stop saying your ‘too fat’ or ‘ugly’ and start saying I'M PERFECT BECAUSE I'M IMPERFECT! and devote your time to positive thoughts only.
  4. You must love yourself somewhat before you fall in love - as the saying goes, “You must love yourself before you can love anyone else” relationships may come and go but your self worth is something that will be with you forever. If your single, enjoy everyday looking after yourself and devoting lots of ‘me time’ to yourself NEVER PIN MOST OF YOUR SELF WORTH TOWARDS SOMEONE ELSE!
  5. Be patient! Your one day your prince will come! - After spending years and years thinking that I was going to be doomed to be alone and feeling lonely and also thinking I was basically going to be Bridget Jones (except for the part where she actually finds a man and more like the infamous opening scene from the first movie on a loop till I die) my soul mate came just have fun and try not to get caught up in worrying about it.
  6. Stand up for yourself - being a nice, kind person is all good and well but don't let people think that means your weak. don't let people walk all over you, stand your ground if you feel that people are treating you bad NEVER suffer in silence and NEVER put up with it.
  7. Do something crazy once in a while, TAKE RISKS! - go on spontaneous trips, go to that last minute concert (even if its the other side of the country) because no good stories came from living by the book.
  8. TRAVEL SOMEWHERE NEW - immerse yourself in new places,if it be local or abroad, you will thank yourself in later life.
  9. It’s okay to cry sometimes  - sometimes we get sad and just want to hide away from the world and its A okay! after all we are all humans and we were given emotions to feel them. just don't make a habit of it everyday.
  10. Cherish everyday you get with your family - one day they might be gone and you will wish you spent your time more wisely with them.
  11. It’s okay to mess up - don't let it get you down. we all fail sometimes, its part of life and without it we cannot grow into better people.
  12. Don't follow the crowd- You don’t have to do things just because everyone else is doing it, you do you boo xo
  13. Don’t feel like you have to achieve things within a certain time deadline - there are sometimes expectations that you have to pass your GCSEs at 16, Get A level and go to uni at 18 and graduate at 21, THROW THIS OUT OF THE WINDOW, do things in your own time, just because everyone else is doing it at certain ages doesn't mean you have to!
  14. Enjoy your childhood and teenage years - these are the years that you have no responsibilities, so go out as often as you like, enjoy those lie-ins on your times of from school, college etc. you will wish you'd have as much free time as you did when your older and have to work.
  15. Try to be kind to everyone - for all you know, they may be struggling hard, so treat people kind, please.
  16. Cherish your friends - Good friends only come once in a lifetime, hold onto them.
  17. Do more of what you love - Don't be 70 and wishing that you'd taken a different path in life, if you want to be an astronaut, DO IT!, if you want to be the world first woman to play in the male team in the world cup DO IT!, if you want to invent time travel DO IT! even if you think its impossible
  18. STOP worrying! - everything will be okay in the end, everything has a solution even if it feels like it doesn't.
  19. Hold onto memories - Take photos, hold onto old birthday cards.. cherish the moment
  20. Pineapple doesn't go on pizza....
